Procters Cattle

THE HERD

The Procters Limousin Herd was established in 1995 with the private purchase of cattle from Hartside, Ringway, Ronick and Greenwell. Several cattle were bought at production and dispersal sales, notably Marnhull Jojo, Intruse, Tunnelby Patience and Woodlea Gilly. We have also been to France and bought cattle from the Alrive, Boutet, Marcailloux, Camus Huberson and Lagautriere herds. We have kept many of our home bred heifers and purchased selectively at various sales and privately the herd is today running at 60 breeding cows and followers.

In the earlier years of the herd AI was used on the pedigree cattle. The first stock bull purchased, jointly with the Hartside Herd was Mynach Norman followed by Neutron in October 1998 (The first Jockey son sold). Greenwell Ronick was purchased in May 2002 and Sidney a Nenuphar son was imported from France in 2000. These sires have all got daughters in the herd today. We have also have been using French AI bulls Mas du Clo and Ionesco. In February 2006 the herd invested in the 100 000 gns world record breaking bull Haltcliffe Vermount who is currently our senior Stock bull. In February 2010 Haltcliffe DJ was purchased jointly with the Netherhall Herd.

Health status

A high priority in our herd is health status. The Procters herd is in a four yearly TB testing parish. The herd is BVD, Leptospirosis and pneumonia vaccinated. We have been screening for Johnes Disease through the SAC Premium Cattle Health Plan in place since early 2001.

June 3rd 2011 Heifer Reduction Sale

In the last 2 years due to us having a greater proportion of heifers born than bulls we have quality heifers for sale. We are keeping 4 heifers as replacements and selling the remaining 11. It is with reluctance that we are parting with any of these heifers, we would happily breed from them all. The ones that are retained are those who don't have many maternal relatives in the herd. Marnhull Jojo the dam was a show cow purchased at Copeland dispersal sale. Jojo is the dam of P. Subaru who bred well for the Brontemoor herd.We have several of the Jojo female line in the herd.
Hartside Dream is JoJo's dam which was purchased by Christine Williams, Wilodge. Dream went on to breed well with Nouvelle Prospect being most noteable

This is the Grand daughter of one of our favourite foundation cows Hartside Madge( a H. Hensingham cow). Madge had great character and presence and bred progeny with bulk. We have 2 of Enas' full sisters of retained in the herd.

Emerald is the result of some embryos we imported from France.This extremely well bred heifer has all the potential of a cow maker. Her sire is the famous Neuf . Her Dam is Stone one of Lauren Delages top brood cows. The full E.T sister to Emerald is retained in the herd.
