Procters Flock

THE FLOCK

The Texel flock was established in 2003 with the purchase of females from noted Texel flocks such as Douganhill, Ettrick, Glenside, Hull House, Loosebeare and Rascarrel.

In June 2009 Jeff Aiken joined the Procters team as flock manager and took over the day to day running of both the Texel and commercial sheep enterprises.

In 2009 private purchases of females have been made from the Annan, Baileys, Chessy and Doonguile flocks along with additions from Cherryvale, Forkins, Knock, Milnbank and Strathbogie at the in lamb gimmer sales. We are very pleased with our purchases as they add power and strength to our existing flock.

In the past the flock has used Beautry Kribensis purchased13,000gns Lanark 2004. Haddo Macbeth and Douganhill Masterpiece who were both purchased at Lanark Premier Sale in 2006 for21,000gns and 20,000gns respectively. Haddo Jogger and Douganhill Jeronimo have also been used as AI sires.

In 2009 we have used several sires. Castlecairn Prince a son of the famous Muiresk Blondin and a maternal brother to the 28,000gns Castlecairn Nile God, this ram has a tremendous Texel head with dense silky white hair, good colourings and character. He has grown into a massive sheep and has bred very consistently within the flock. He was purchased at Carlisle for 5000gns.

Deveronvale Private who was a joint private purchase with the Cairness flock, this ram has a great body, skin and character. He too has bred very well for the small number of ewes he received.

Kerryhill Oliver, he was purchased jointly at Dungannon premier sale 2008 for 8,000gns. He sired Procters Playboy who sold for 8,000gns to the Garngour flock. He has a great body, skin and carcase. We have some very nice lambs off him this year.

Clydeside Oscar who is a fantastic example of what the Texel breed is all about. This ram boasts a tremendous body with a great shoulder, top line and exceptional carcase.

His progeny are true to type and we are very pleased with them. He was purchased at Kelso ram sales for £3400
